About Our Organization
Founded in 2008, the Western New York Special Hockey Association, Inc. — home of the Buffalo Sabres Thunder — gives individuals with developmental disabilities the chance to experience the excitement and teamwork of ice hockey. We are proud to be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit affiliated with USA Hockey, ASHA, and Special Hockey International.
Our Mission
We provide individuals — both male and female — with developmental disabilities the unique opportunity to play ice hockey.
To help every player feel they are part of a team.
To provide training in the game of hockey at all levels.
To share the thrill of competition while having fun.
The Buffalo Sabres Thunder Program
Our team practices every Sunday from October through March/April, with scrimmages, tournaments, and a strong focus on skill development.
